Complete Patient Management System

Objective

The objective of this project was to create software that can keep track of all the records of a patient's medical information, including medical history, prescriptions, allergies, necessary treatments, and so forth. Normally, a patient's medical record is crucial in the event of any emergencies as it becomes essential for the physicians to study these records in depth before offering appropriate treatment. This project primary goal was to develop web-based electronic health records software that can offer unique solutions to documentation issues.

Client's Requirement

The client wanted to have the entire summary of medical history, diagnosis, prescriptions, plans of treatment, dates of vaccinations, allergies, radiological pictures, and lab and test results of a patient. The software had to allow physicians to have access to evidence-based instruments for making decisions about a patient's care.

Challenge

The key challenges faced while developing this project were related to data, technical changes and market disruption due to emerging technologies. The major challenges we faced as a team while developing this project are listed below:

Data Privacy

The implementation of data protection and privacy was the key challenge while building the EHR software. The prospect of data loss due to a serious disaster or a cyberattack needed to be prevented by the system. Building a strong architecture for the same was a challenge for our team.

Data Migration

Migration of data requires a lot of time, technology, and effort. Converting paper-based records to digital records was a challenging task for our team. One of the main obstacles to HER data migration is selecting the proper technology and building a system that adheres to it.

Interoperability

Although interoperability in EMR is essential for understanding a patient's entire medical history, it nevertheless poses a significant hurdle to proper data transfer. The coordination of care can be hampered by the absence of interoperability, and poor health outcomes can make it difficult to pinpoint the origin of medical support.

Limitation of Technical Resources

One of the challenges with EHR deployment that is frequently encountered is technical complications. To set up the EHR solution development process, building an internal team with the right personnel and the necessary skills, as well as purchasing technology, is quite expensive. Additionally, the arrangement of the technical expertise and provider oversight in-house team were the challenges faced by our team.

Appointment Scheduling

All the scheduling responsibilities and the appointment scheduling with the physician can be simply done with one click. The appointment can be rapidly booked and can be rescheduled as well. The patients can also access their contact information, determine their eligibility, check their balance, and collect copays by using the calendar itself.

Payment Tracking and Billing System

The software can assist patients by tracking payments from the time a patient checks in until the time they discharge, the hospital billing tool allows healthcare facilities to streamline RCM (Revenue Cycle Management). It keeps a database of all past and present payment details as well as diagnostics and monitors patients' balances.

Digital Chart

The software platform can comply with all the data on the system updated for a specific patient. It will make the visual representation by accumulating the data entered about the patient in the software. The data can contain the patient's medical history, personal information, laboratory test results, imaging data, and prescriptions for medications. Additionally, it can also store a specific person's insurance and billing information.

Patient Insurance Management

Patient insurance management improves the efficiency of working with insurance companies by automating business processes. This comprises managing clients, costs, and services following a specific insurance provider. Patients can keep health insurance and benefit from greater continuity of care by using electronic health data as a source to verify their health insurance coverage.

E- HIPPA

The HIPAA Privacy Rule, which established national standards to safeguard people's medical records and other sensitive health information, is strictly adhered to by the application. Using the application, the patient can expect everything that HIPPA has stated, such as:

  • Having more control over their health information
  • Establishing limitations on how health records can be used and shared
  • Laying out all the necessary precautions that medical professionals and others must take to ensure the privacy of patient records

Electronic Management of Documents

It decreases the amount of time medical staff must spend on administrative tasks and eliminates paperwork, all while enhancing workflow efficiency, monitoring capabilities, and speed. The document management system can retrieve files by a word or phrase in a document, depending on the solution used. Access to crucial information is made easier through easier connections with corporate applications.

E – prescribing

The software can electronically send an accurate, error-free and understandable prescription directly to a pharmacy from the point-of-care. The user can easily register and signup and after the process is complete, they can easily use the E-prescribing feature in the system.

Clinical Workflow Management

Through increasing productivity and efficiency, EHR software deployment can greatly lessen the operational workload of hospitals by enabling the company to experience some real growth.
